Alumni Spotlight

Barry Creed Col. Barry Creed (Ret.) is a double graduate from Columbus State. During his time at CSU, Creed was a member of the ROTC program, commissioning into military service in 1983. During his tenure in the military, Creed contributed his management expertise through various positions within different divisions, including the United States Joint Forces Command, Battalion Commander, Counterdrug Action Officer, Chief of the Joint Operations Center, and Operations Officer. Over the course of his career in the military, Creed was awarded two Bronze Star Medals for his wartime service in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Along with a decorated military career Creed retired in 2011 and shortly after he was, awarded the Depart of Defense's Joint Meritorious Service Medal. He was also honored with the Distinguished Military Service award from the CSU Alumni Association in 2014 and has established the SGT Bernard James Creed Memorial Scholarship for ROTC in his father's memory at CSU. Upcoming in June 2016, Barry will be inducted as a part of the inaugural class of the US Army ROTC National Hall of Fame in Fort Knox, KY.


Ray Herras Ray Herras, B.S. '00, is a leader in cyber security and currently serves as the Information Systems Security Manager for Veracity Forecasting and Analysis located in Alexandria, Virginia. In this role, he is the Senior Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and Vice President of Operations for all cyber security policy and company security activities. Prior to this work, Herras was a senior analyst at Noblis NSP supporting the US Department of Defense's efforts to defend the nation from global cyber threats in Washington, D.C. Along with his professional career, Herras is a decorated military veteran of both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Ray is active in the local community currently serving as the Board Chair, Capital Region Chapter, Gift of Adoption Fund (Serving the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia), and as Board Secretary, Arlington County Fair, Arlington, Virginia. Ray will join the CSU Alumni Association Board of Directors this coming fall.
